Episode 10

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: What's My Line (Part 2)
Synopsis: We left last week with Angel locked in a cage and about to be fried, Cordellia and Xander looking to become worm food and two Slayers facing off.

Two Slayers? Back when Buffy briefly drowned the next Slayer became mystically activated and has just been sent to Sunnydale because her watcher realised that Spike's plan for Drusilla was seriously bad mojo. Through Kendra Buffy gets to see what total dedication to the cause is like(Kendra was given up by her parents as a child when they realised she was destined to be a Slayer and she has been reared by her Watcher). The two butt heads but considering that the Order of Taraka is still after her and Spike planning to sacrifice Angel to heal Dusilla, Buffy needs all the help she can get.

Lots of squee in this ep with Oz and Willow stiking up a friendship and Xander and Cordilia making out in the best traditions of total opposites being brought together throgh adversity.

Episode 9

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: What's My Line (Part 1)
Synopsis: It is careers week at Sunnydale High and Standardised testing predicts Xander will be a prison guard, Willow will get headhunted by the very best, and Buffy... well - as if a career is an option for The Slayer.

This ep starts off as usual with Buffy moaning about being a teen slayer, but while business is usual for her, Spike is unravelling an old manuscript in an attempt to heal Drusilla. And because The Slayer is such a thorn in his side he decides to get the assasin Order of Taraka involved. Thus, three unknown figures arrive in Sunnydale, a bug man, a vampire, and teenage girl.

Episode 8

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: The Dark Age
Synopsis: A man comes to Sunnydale looking for Giles but ends up dead. And then un-dead.

Another non-Buffy episode(she has her moment but isn't central to the story). Giles past comes to visit on un-dead legs and while he is trying to deal with a demon possessed Miss Calendar, Willow has the work of finding the solution of killing the demon without cutting off their computer teacher's head.

Oh, and it was a really nice touch to show Miss Calendar's post-possession reaction. Classic post trauma(especially rape) body language. People don't just bounce back.

Episode 7

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: Lie to Me
Synopsis: Who knew there was a club in Sunnydale who's members worshiped vampires?

An old school friend from LA comes to Sunnydale. The first obvious thought is: Victim or Villain? There is some classic insecurity when the new(old) boy comes into town and Buffy sees Angel chatting to Drusilla. On the continuing storyline part of the episode Angel comes clean about Drussilla and how he made her the insane vamp she is.

This ep was worth it just for the closing scene between Buffy and Giles.

"Nothing is ever simple any more. I am constantly trying to work it out. Who to love or hate - who to trust. And it's just like the more I know the more confused I get."
"I believe that's called growing up."
"I'd like to stop then, okay?"
"I know the feeling"
"Does it ever get easy?"
"You mean life?"
"Yeah. Does it get easy?"
"What do you want me to say?"
"Lie to me."

Episode 6

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: Halloween
Synopsis: Halloween is suposed to be a quiet night for the undead, and you know as soon as Buffy says that things are going to go wrong(although, to be fair, the undead aren't responsible)

Is anyone surprised when kids turn feral at halloween, with all the sugar and excitement. Of course it doesn't help that there is a new costume shop in town and the owner has a mysterious altar out the back. Buffy gets to play helpless, Xander shows just how gung-ho he can be and Willow is a sight to behold(it is a pity you can see through her). We get a new villain who knows Giles and hints at him having a dark past, so while the episode was a bit run of the mill, we got some nice forboding and Buffy and Angel pashing at the end.

Episode 5

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: Snake Boy
Synopsis: All work and no play(esspecially with Angel) makes Buffy a sad girl. So Party Time is scedualed at a college Frat during Pledge Week

The problem with hormones are they don't always point you in the right direction. So when Buffy feels she is being pushed by Giles too hard and then Angel, who is trying to do the right thing, blows her off, it is time to break loose and party down. You know what happens next.

Episode 4

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: Inca Mummy Girl
Synopsis: Student exchange time at Sunnydale High. That and an Inca exhibit featuring sacrificial murder. What could possibly go wrong?

It is good to have episodes that aren't all about Buffy. It is the ensemble nature of this series that makes it shine. Today the focus is on Xander and Willow and their hopeless "friends" situation with a nice bit of fore-shaddowing(Oz). As far as the story goes none of the characters do anything really all that special(unless you call Xander's witty semi-awkward banter as being special).

Episode 3

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: School Hard
Synopsis: What could be more scary then a two time slayer of Slayers hunting you down?

Parent Teacher night.

Sometimes when an episode is more about the team and less about the monsters the fighting can seem tacked on. Sometimes when an episode is just about the monsters it loses steam.  This was a perfect blend.  Not too heavy-not too light with the added bonus of Spike and Drusilla coming to town.

Eposide 2

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: Some Assembly Required
Synopsis: When Buffy finds an empty grave which didn't previously house a vampire Giles speculates that the body may have been taken by flesh eating demons or voodoo practitioners. But what if the thieves were high school students? It is Science Fair time at Sunnydale.

My two favourite lines of this ep were:
Xander "I will tell you this, people don't fall in love with what is right in front of them.  They want the dream. What they can't have. The more unattainable, the more attractive." - So D&M, so clueless.
Giles "I think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on 40 lbs of protective gear just in order to play rugby" - Oh, SNAP!

Season 2 Episode 1

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
Episode: When She Was Bad
Synopsis: A new school year come with new problems, and some old ones still unresolved

SMG does a great job portraying a girl with (as Giles puts it) "Issues". The inner fear that she isn't good enough leads her to alienate herself from her friends and family. The final obligatory action scene didn't really do much for me, but that wasn't what this episode was about.  It was about Buffy dealing with her emotional demons and finding reconciliation, not just from within, but from the people around her too.

A bit of a Change 1

Series: Dr Who 2006 ep 4
Episode: The Girl in the Fireplace
Synopsis: The Dr, Rose and Micky find a spaceship with time portals to 18th C France.

Russell T Davies(writer) continues his love affair with historical figures* as the Dr steps through time portals in a moribund spaceships into various points in the life of the (in)famous Madame De Pompadour.  Probably Russell's best episode to date, but I can't help but think it wouldn't have been as good as it was without the music, so hats off to Murray Gold for giving a good episode the polish to become a great one.

Ride Stats
Time: 40.21
Distance: 11.371 km
Max Speed: 53.7 km/h
Average Speed: 16.9 km/h

*Checked the episode listing and this was a Steven Moffat ep. To tell the truth I am not wholly surprised as I seem to like "The Moff's" writing more than the other writers(Including Davies)

Episode 12

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1
Episode: Prophecy Girl
Synopsis: Buffy learns that the prophesies don't look good for her confrontation with the Master.

The last season from Season 1 and the Master finally opens the Hell Mouth. Buffy suffers from the vagaries of prophesy and both she and Xander face decisions and learn truths that will dramatically change them.
